Woodbine is a city located in Camden County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,218. The city is the county seat of Camden County6.

Geography


Woodbine is located at 30°57'43" North, 81°43'12" West (30.961869, -81.720017)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.8 km² (2.2 mi²). 5.8 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,218 people, 423 households, and 299 families residing in the city. The population density is 209.9/km² (543.1/mi²). There are 520 housing units at an average density of 89.6/km² (231.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 53.61% White, 43.84% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.90% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 2.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 423 households out of which 37.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.2% are married couples living together, 20.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% are non-families. 24.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.18. In the city the population is spread out with 30.0% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 98.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.9 males. The median income for a household in the city is $34,632, and the median income for a family is $39,688. Males have a median income of $30,192 versus $22,273 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,709. 18.7% of the population and 15.5% of families are below the poverty line. As of the census of 2000, there are 1,564 people, 647 households, and 416 families residing in the city. The population density is 534.4/km² (1,381.1/mi²). There are 696 housing units at an average density of 237.8/km² (614.6/mi²).
