Dyer is a town located in Crawford County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 585.

Geography


Dyer is located at 35°29'40" North, 94°8'19" West (35.494532, -94.138541)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²). 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 585 people, 230 households, and 163 families residing in the town. The population density is 86.9/km² (225.3/mi²). There are 248 housing units at an average density of 36.8/km² (95.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.24% White, 0.17% Black or African American, 1.20% Native American, 0.85% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 0.17% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 230 households out of which 30.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.3% are married couples living together, 5.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.7% are non-families. 23.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.06. In the town the population is spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 29.1% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 93.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $23,438, and the median income for a family is $28,500. Males have a median income of $28,523 versus $21,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $13,206. 34.1% of the population and 22.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 52.7% are under the age of 18 and 32.1% are 65 or older.

As of the census of 2000, there are 13,895 people, 4,805 households, and 3,863 families residing in the town. The population density is 900.1/km² (2,331.3/mi²). There are 4,900 housing units at an average density of 317.4/km² (822.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 95.42% White, 0.65% African American, 0.14% Native American, 1.60% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.26% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 5.01% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,805 households out of which 38.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.6% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.6% are non-families. 16.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.82 and the average family size is 3.19. In the town the population is spread out with 26.1% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 28.2% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.5 males. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 76.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 73.8 males. The median income for a household in the city is $28,250, and the median income for a family is $35,667. Males have a median income of $27,539 versus $19,306 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,587. 14.7% of the population and 11.0% of families are below the poverty line.
