Clip art Clip art, in the graphic arts, is the use of images either copied or physically cut (hence the term) from pre-existing printed works, either books that have entered the public domain, or books specifically published for such use (which, if they contain images that are not in the public domain, include a license fee in the cover price). It is also not uncommon for large organizations to provide their local divisions or chapters with clip art (either physical or electronic) of their logos, mascots, and so forth, in order that local publications may have a unified appearance. It is also rather common for those producing documents with limited distribution to use images from non-public-domain sources for which they have not paid license fees, such as coloring books, newspapers, magazines, and such, although some magazines, particularly those dealing with hobbies will publish images explicitly licensed to the magazine purchaser for use as clip art. 1995Invention patented by Tsutomu Tanaka on June 31th, 1995. Abstract: A clip which is comprised of a male member and a female member. The male member is inserted into the female member, and an inserting portion of a leg of the male member passes through split pieces of the female member. The clip in which the male member and the female member are assembled is inserted into through holes in panels to be fastened. When the male member is slightly pulled back, tip ends of the split pieces are engaged in engaging holes in the inserting portion, allowing the clip to be pressed in with the split pieces set in a state of reduced diameter. When the fastened state of the panels is canceled, the male member is pulled out, and the tip ends of the split pieces are engaged in the engaging holes in the inserting portion while being guided by guide grooves. As a result, the diameter of the tip ends of the split pieces is reduced, and the clip is pulled out with the female member held integrally with the male member. Therefore, even though the split pieces have undergone creep deformation and their diameter cannot be resiliently reduced, the clip can be removed with a small pulling-out force.

One of the jaws is provided with a rib, the other a channel within which the rib is received, wherein at least one of the rib and channelled jaw being formed in medial portions with a lacuna as seen in profile, with a clearance between such medial portions when the jaws are closed. The lacuna assists in locating the clip relative to the bag, and permits the gathering of the neck of the bag whereby a substantial reduction in the size of the clip is possible in comparison to prior art clips.
1998Invention patented by Anthony Earle, Leslie R. Wells, and Joachim P. Simon on February 8th, 1998. Abstract: A clip for attaching an end of a web to a drive belt. The clip comprises an elongate mount for receiving an end of the web, and an attachment section for securing the clip to the belt. The attachment section comprises two spaced pairs of claws for gripping the drive belt such that the drive belt and the web are substantially parallel and a flexible support connecting the two spaced pairs of claws providing flexibility in the direction of travel, such that, in use, the flexible support can deform to conform to the path of the drive belt as the drive belt passes through a processing apparatus. The resulting clip is easy to use, reliable during use and easily removed from the drive belt at the end of a processing operation.
1999Invention patented by Stephan Mann on February 2nd, 1999. Abstract: A clip for clamping an article, such as a hose, includes an annular clip band and a plurality of annular insert bands. Each of the insert bands has a first end section and a second end section. The end sections extend in the circumferential direction and overlap one another. One of the insert bands selectively surrounds a radial inside surface of the clip band. Each of the insert bands has a resistance to a relative displacement occurring in the circumferential direction of their mutually overlapping end sections. The resistances for each of the insert bands differs in such a manner that, when a predetermined clamping force is exerted on the clip band in the circumferential direction, a different predetermined radial clamping force on the clamped article results with the use of each respective insert band.
1999Invention patented by Masao Noda, Yuji Shirakawa, and Shigenobu Nirei on October 20th, 1999. Abstract: A first support element and a second support element are arranged opposite to each other. A connection element is arranged so as to connect one ends of the first and second support element to each other therethrough, so that the first support element, second support element and connection element cooperate together to form a substantially U-shape in section. A press element is formed at a free end of the second support element in a manner to be extended from the free end through a hinge groove. The press element is inwardly bent at the hinge groove to abut at a distal end thereof against an inner surface of the first support element, so that papers or the like are inserted between the first support element and the press element, resulting in the papers or the like being firmly interposedly held by the clip.
2000Invention patented by Fred Howard on March 6th, 2000. Abstract: A clip design for securing an object to an article of clothing on a wearer. The clip contains first and second display surfaces for conveying a message, slogan or other device to a wearer and to others in proximity to the wearer when the clip is in use. The display surfaces are oriented in a direction opposite from each other and positioned such that a message contained on the surfaces are oriented in a direction to be visually perceivable by the wearer.
2000Invention patented by Harold Edward Ayliffe and Oliver Steffen on September 31th, 2000. Abstract: A clip for connecting to a ring or the like has a resilient bow and first and second hook portions at first and second ends of the bow. The second hook portion has a pair of spaced apart hook parts. A hook is formed in each hook portion. The clip can be opened by squeezing the bow in a transverse direction until the first hook portion extends between the hook parts of the second hook portion with the hooks facing one another. The first hook portion extends far enough that a gap exists between the hook portions through which a ring may be inserted into the hooks. When the clip is released, the bow biases the hook portions outwardly so that the ring is captured in a loop formed by the hooks. The clip may be fabricated from resilient plastic. The clip has many uses anywhere that it is desirable to clip something to a ring or the like. The clip may be made so that it is easy to open while wearing gloves.
2001Invention patented by Tsutomu Tanaka on May 16th, 2001. Abstract: A clip is formed of a male and a female members, and can take a temporarily fastened state by inserting an inserting shaft of the male member into an inner side of leg pieces of the female member and a finally fastened state by further inserting the inserting shaft. In the finally fastened state, the leg pieces are widely opened and fixed to the inserting shaft. The clip includes engaging projections, as a correcting device, disposed between the adjacent leg pieces facing each other and allowing the widely opened leg pieces to move inwardly when the male member is moved to the temporally fastened state. Thus, the clip can be easily fastened and removed.
