Welcome is a city located in Martin County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 721.Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²). 2.4 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 721 people, 310 households, and 200 families residing in the city. The population density is 305.9/km² (792.4/mi²). There are 347 housing units at an average density of 147.2/km² (381.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.17% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 0.97% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 310 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% are married couples living together, 6.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.2% are non-families. 31.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.33 and the average family size is 2.90. In the city the population is spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 19.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 107.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.3 males. The median income for a household in the city is $32,125, and the median income for a family is $38,438. Males have a median income of $30,875 versus $20,536 for females. As of the census of 2000, there are 6,390 people, 2,696 households, and 1,771 families residing in the town. The population density is 535.2/km² (1,384.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 75.74% White, 17.98% African American, 0.41% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 4.43% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 7.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
