Reserve is a village located in Catron County, New Mexico. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 387. It is the county seat of Catron County6.On December 1, 1884, near town (then called Frisco), deputy sheriff Elfego Baca held off a gang of 80 Texan cowboys who wanted to kill him for arresting cowboy Charles McCarthy. The cowboys were terrorizing the area's Hispanos and Baca was working against them.
