The English national football team's moment of greatest triumph was in 1966 when the side led by Bobby Moore under the managership of Alf Ramsey won the World Cup. In the final, England beat West Germany by 4 goals to 2, with 3 goals from Geoff Hurst and one from Martin Peters. In 2001, Sven-Göran Eriksson became the first foreign national (he is Swedish) to become the manager of England. They qualified for the Football World Cup 2002 (held in Japan and South Korea) in a tense finale on the 6th October 2001, with the final goal which gave them the much-needed draw against Greece coming from David Beckham in the dying seconds of the game. This result ensured automatic qualification above Germany on goal difference. In the World Cup itself, England reached the quarter-finals before being beaten by eventual tournament winners Brazil 2-1.
The first national manager, Walter Winterbottom, died in February 2002.
England is a member of UEFA.

The adjective "global" and adverb "globally" imply that the verb or noun to which they are applied applies to the entire Earth and all of its species and regions. It is sometimes used as a synonym for the much narrower international/internationally but this is incorrect:
The term "world" is also sometimes used when humanity rather than the Earth is concerned.
- Only two nations need to be involved to make something international, but, presumably, all must be potentially involved before it becomes truly global
- Nations are concerned wholly and only with humanity's concerns, and that usually in a narrow time frame, whereas there are many global concerns that transcend species or generations.

In Canada, Global is often referred to the Global Television Network.

An international organization is an organization of international scope or character. There are two main types of international organizations: international intergovernmental organizations, whose members are sovereign states; and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), which are private organizations. Generally the term international organization is used to mean international governmental organizations only. It is in this sense that the term is used in the remainder of this article.
Legally speaking, an international organization must be established by a treaty providing it with legal personality for it to be an international organization. International organizations so established are subjects of international law, capable of entering into agreements among themselves or with states. Thus international organizations in a legal sense are distinguished from mere groupings of states, such as the G-8 and the G-77, neither of which have been founded by treaty, though in non-legal contexts these are sometimes referred to as international organizations as well. International organizations must also be distinguished from treaties; while all international organizations are founded on a treaty, many treaties (e.g. NAFTA) do not establish an international organization, and rely purely on the parties for their administration.
International organizations can be categorised in two main ways: by their membership, and by their function.
International organizations differ in who their members are, or who is permitted to join them. Some organizations, global organizations, have membership open to all the nations of the world. This includes the United Nations and its specialized agencies. Other organizations are open to membership only within a particular region of the world. Finally, some organizations base their membership on other criteria: cultural or historical links (the Commonwealth, La Francophonie), level of economic development or type of economy (OECD, OPEC), or religion (Organization of the Islamic Conference).

The International Workingmen's Association was an international group of socialists. Originally, it contained socialists of all kinds, including libertarian socialistss (known by various names, including anarchists, anarcho-communists and Bakuninists) as well as the more authoritarian Marxists and social democrats.
First International
The Schism
The First International was split into two after Mikhail Bakunin, the foremost anarchist, and Karl Marx differed on both principles and practical courses of action.
Second International
The Second International is a collection of moderate leftist political parties. For example, the British Labour Party and the German Social Democrats are affiliated to it.
Third International
The Third International was the Communist International. Commonly referred to as Comintern, it was created at the behest of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union for the express purpose of establishing Communist Parties in countries across the world. The first Communist International meeting was held in Moscow on March 2, 1917.
Fourth International
The Fourth International was created in 1938 by Leon Trotsky. It represents the Trotskyite strain of Communist thought, particularly Trotsky's ideas of Permanent Revolution.

Internationalism is a political movement which advocates a greater economic and political cooperation between nations for the benefit of all. Partisans of this movement claim that nations should cooperate because their long-term mutual interests are of greater value than their own individual short-term needs.Internationalism is by nature opposed to ultranationalism, jingoism and national chauvinism as well as to strictly economic globalization movements which deny the value of other nations' culture and differences. Internationalism presupposes the recognition of other nations as equal, in spite of all their differences, in total respect of each other's nationalism.
International socialism was one of the original ideals of the communist movement, but internationalism is not restricted to the far left. The right-wing desire for economic globalization achives similar ends, but with different political goals. More and more, the left speaks of a globalization of solidarities.
One of the ideals of many internationalists is movement towards World Government. Examples of bodies formed through internationalism are the United Nations and the European Union, and can be seen as progress towards such a goal.
