Bible

Glory (Heb. kabhod; Gr. doxa). (1.) Abundance, wealth, treasure, and hence honour (Ps. 49:12); glory (Gen. 31:1; Matt. 4:8; Rev. 21:24, 26). (2.) Honour, dignity (1 Kings 3:13; Heb. 2:7 1 Pet. 1:24); of God (Ps. 19:1; 29:1); of the mind or heart (Gen. 49:6; Ps. 7:5; Acts 2:46). (3.) Splendour, brightness, majesty (Gen. 45:13; Isa. 4:5; Acts 22:11; 2 Cor. 3:7); of Jehovah (Isa. 59:19; 60:1; 2 Thess. 1:9). (4.) The glorious moral attributes, the infinite perfections of God (Isa. 40:5; Acts 7:2; Rom. 1:23; 9:23; Eph. 1:12). Jesus is the "brightness of the Father's glory" (Heb. 1:3; John 1:14; 2:11). (5.) The bliss of heaven (Rom. 2:7, 10; 5:2; 8:18; Heb. 2:10; 1 Pet. 5:1, 10). (6.) The phrase "Give glory to God" (Josh. 7:19; Jer. 13:16) is a Hebrew idiom meaning, "Confess your sins." The words of the Jews to the blind man, "Give God the praise" (John 9:24), are an adjuration to confess. They are equivalent to, "Confess that you are an impostor," "Give God the glory by speaking the truth;" for they denied that a miracle had been wrought. Source: Easton's 1897 Bible Dictionary.

Specialty Definition: Glory (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Glory, also known as Glorificus or The Beast, is a fictional character in the Americann television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, played by Clare Kramer. She appeared during most of the fifth season of the program.

Warning: Wikipedia contains spoilers.

Glory was a goddess from a hell dimension, over which she ruled, with two other gods. She soon became the most powerful of the three. Afraid that she would take control of their world, the other two began a war against her; Glory lost the war and was banished into our dimension, where she was forced to share a body with a child named Ben, created especially to hold her. She soon began to gain control over Ben for short periods of time, taking the form of a human female which possessed superhuman strength, but lacked many of Glory's other powers. A magical "amnesia" spell kept humans from learning that Glory and Ben were one and the same, even if she transformed right in front of them.

Glory came to Sunnydale looking for "the Key", a mystical item that would break down the walls between all dimensions, allowing Glorificus to return to reign in her own dimension. Use of the Key would also cause the destruction of all other dimensions, including the one Buffy and her friends inhabit. Glory was not aware of what form the Key had taken. Glory surrounded herself with loyal minions, and began the quest to locate the key.

In order to maintain her sanity, Glory fed off of other humans by a process that Buffy and her friends referred to as "brain-sucking." The humans that she "devoured" in this way became incoherent and mentally unstable; Glory's arrival in Sunnydale was followed by an inexplicable increase in the number of mental patients. One of her unfortunate victims was Willow's girlfriend, Tara.

For her part, Buffy was not initially aware of the Key's nature either. It was eventually revealed that Buffy's sister Dawn was the Key, in human form. Glory soon discovered this fact, and managed to kidnap Dawn.

The Key could only be used at a certain time, and as that time drew near, the power that separated Glory from Ben dissolved. They still inhabited Ben's body separately, but their memories and personalities began to blur together.

Buffy attacked Glory with everything she had: the Dagon Sphere, the Hammer of Olaf, her identical robot twin (the "Buffy-bot"), and eventually a wrecking ball, commandeered by Xander. However, the final spell that would invoke the Key had already been started. Ultimately, Buffy jumped into the portal that was opening between dimensions, resulting in its closure and her own death.

Glory was left weakened, losing her hold on this reality, and returned to the form and mind of Ben. Giles knew that Glory would return unless Ben were killed, so suffocated him. As Ben died, so did Glory.

Devil's Dictionary

DOG, n. A kind of additional or subsidiary Deity designed to catch the overflow and surplus of the world's worship. This Divine Being in some of his smaller and silkier incarnations takes, in the affection of Woman, the place to which there is no human male aspirant. The Dog is a survival -- an anachronism. He toils not, neither does he spin, yet Solomon in all his glory never lay upon a door-mat all day long, sun-soaked and fly-fed and fat, while his master worked for the means wherewith to purchase the idle wag of the Solomonic tail, seasoned with a look of tolerant recognition.
