Wilder is a city located in Canyon County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,462.

Geography


Wilder is located at 43°40'35" North, 116°54'36" West (43.676451, -116.910122)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and 2.56% is water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,462 people, 389 households, and 315 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,485.5/km² (3,885.7/mi²). There are 421 housing units at an average density of 427.8/km² (1,118.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 33.99% White, 0.21% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 62.93% from other races, and 2.39% from two or more races. 76.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 389 households out of which 52.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.6% are married couples living together, 9.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 19.0% are non-families. 17.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.76 and the average family size is 4.30. In the city the population is spread out with 39.2% under the age of 18, 13.3% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 15.1% from 45 to 64, and 7.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 24 years. For every 100 females there are 99.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.7 males. The median income for a household in the city is $21,731, and the median income for a family is $25,625. Males have a median income of $22,188 versus $16,250 for females. The per capita income for the city is $7,601. 31.6% of the population and 27.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 37.4% are under the age of 18 and 26.3% are 65 or older.

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,624 people, 1,162 households, and 743 families residing in the city. The population density is 273.1/km² (707.8/mi²). There are 1,200 housing units at an average density of 124.9/km² (323.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.51% White, 2.29% African American, 0.11% Native American, 1.56% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.99% from two or more races. 0.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,162 households out of which 28.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.0% are non-families. 31.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.85. In the city the population is spread out with 23.0% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 35.2% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who are 65 years of age or older.
