Waterproof is a town located in Tensas Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 834.Geography
Waterproof is located at 31°48'25" North, 91°23'7" West (31.806938, -91.385233)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²). 1.8 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 834 people, 353 households, and 194 families residing in the town. The population density is 460.0/km² (1,197.9/mi²). There are 427 housing units at an average density of 235.5/km² (613.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 11.87% White, 87.41% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 0.96% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 353 households out of which 24.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 23.2% are married couples living together, 28.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.8% are non-families. 40.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 3.30. In the town the population is spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 19.5% from 25 to 44, 25.2% from 45 to 64, and 18.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 75.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 66.9 males. The median income for a household in the town is $10,250, and the median income for a family is $15,179. Males have a median income of $21,250 versus $14,792 for females. The per capita income for the town is $9,523. 51.1% of the population and 44.5% of families are below the poverty line.
