SubjectTopicQuote

Health

There are many types of fats, with many general publications recommending the intake of unsaturated fats or those low in cholesterol. (references)

Unsaturated fats are found in foods such as fish, margarine and vegetable oils. Keep your use of salad dressings to a minimum and whenever possible use those prepared with olive oil. To help keep the diet lower in fat, avoid adding extra fats such as rich sauces and creamy desserts, and bake or broil foods instead of frying them. Replacing fatty foods with those high in complex carbohydrates is also helpful. (references)

To learn whether diets very high in polyunsaturated fatty acids have any adverse effects, more information is needed regarding their biochemical and biological effects, including those of the highly unsaturated fatty acids found in fish oils. Research is also needed on the biology of vessel wall injury, on the cells that participate in atherosclerosis, and on the events that trigger thrombosis in atherosclerotic vessels. (references)

Economic History

Thailand

Increasing demand for electronic components worldwide in the past decade has resulted in the rapid growth of the EIP market in Thailand . Industrial sources estimate that Thailand's electronics business has grown 20-30 percent during the last five years . The EIP market has also registered annual growth of 5-10 percent to support both new investment as well as expansion of existing manufacturing facilities . The slowdown in the U.S. and Japan is unlikely to impact this young, unsaturated and strong growth market given that there is greater demand to shorten the cycle of the world's electronics market . The electronics industry generated about $18 billion or 26.6 percent of Thailand's total export revenue in 2000 . Electronics are predicted to be the top export item with a projected export value of $19.6 billion in 2001, representing 8.4 percent growth and accounting for 25 percent of total export revenue.
