The tsetse fly, Glossina morsitans, is a fly (order Diptera) that eats blood from animals, including humans. The tsetse fly can carry the protozoa human pathogen Trypanosoma brucei, which causes African sleeping sickness. Tsetse flies have specialized cells that contain bacterial endosymbionts.
