Clinically a nondescript disease which may be peracute, acute or chronic. The diagnosis is based on a positive blood smear and the presence of an insect vector, often a tsetse fly. The trypanosomiases affect all domestic animals and are caused by protozoa of the genus Trypanosoma, the major species of which are:T congolense, T vivax, T brucei and T simiae.
