Blood then passes from the right atrium to the right ventricule through the --. The three tissue flaps of this valve prevent blood from flowing in the opposite direction. Source: European Union. (references)
Valve attached to the right atrioventricular(tricuspid)orifice, which is larger than the mitral and directs the right atrial blood anteriorly, inferiorly and to the left. Usually the valve is formed of three tricuspid leaflets of unequal size:the anterior, the septal(medial)and the posterior. They are thinner and more translucent than those of the mitral valve. The rapid opening and closing of the mitral and tricuspid leaflets is possible because of their remarkable mobility, facilitated by a specific gravity approximating that of blood, a smooth surface minimizing friction and a large area of coaptation between the leaflets [VE1].
