Specialty Definition: Token

DomainDefinition

Computing

Token 1. A basic, grammatically indivisible unit of a language such as a keyword, operator or identifier. Compare: lexeme. 2. (Or "pumpkin") An abstact concept passed between cooperating agents to ensure synchronised access to a shared resource. Such a token is never duplicated or destroyed (unless the resource is) and whoever has the token has exclusive access to the resource it controls. See for example token ring. If several programmers are working on a program, one programmer will "have the token" at any time, meaning that only he can change the program whereas others can only read it. If someone else wants to modify it he must first obtain the token. (1999-02-23). Source: The Free On-line Dictionary of Computing.

Specialty Definition: Token

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Token can mean one of several things:

Token (parser)

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

A token is a piece of text, typically a word or punctuation mark, separated by a lexical analyzer and passed to a parser.

Older Interpreters would tokenize the program, turning the instructions from the programmer into byte-codes that were more easily processed by the VM - Virtual Machine. By doing so they would gain a bit more speed, faster execution.

Some examples are the, O-code, P-code, Z-machine, and byte codes used in different VM systems.

Nonetheless, U.S. car exports were expected to slow down in 1999 due to a number of factors, namely, a lower disposable income, a higher price of gasoline, and a growing consumer tendency for small-engine cars. By the same token, U.S.-made parts and accessories are expected to boost their share of the Saudi auto parts market, growing by four percent over the next two years, as Saudi consumers retain their old cars for longer periods.
