Tips from 1870 | Usage: Terminus. Terminus, radius, alumnus, and some other words ending in us, form their plurals by changing the termination us into i; as termini, radii, etc. Many words ending in us that formerly were written with only the Latin plural, are now given an English plural also; as, focuses, foci; cactuses, cacti; sarcophaguses, sarcophagi; convolvuluses, convolvuli ; funguses, fungi; nucleuses, nuclei. Isthmus, prospectus, rebus, take only the English plural. Apparatus has no plural. Avoid apparatuses. The plural of genius, as applied to a man of unusual vigor of mind, is geniuses. When applied to a good or bad spirit, the plural is genii. Source: Slips of Speech. |

In Roman mythology, Terminus was the god of boundaries. The stones used to mark borders were sacred to him.On February 23, the Terminalia was held in his honor. The stone boundary-markers were drenched in sacrificial blood and place on flowers to renew its protective powers. The stone was later thought of as a god.
Jupiter was worshipped as Jupiter Terminus or Jupiter Terminalus. He fit into the same role as the independent god Terminus.
Terminus was also the original name of the city of Atlanta, named not for the god but for being the terminus (end) of many of the South's railroad lines. The name was soon changed to Marthasville, and Atlanta soon after that.
Terminus is the name of the home planet of the Foundation in Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.

Terminus is a fictional planet at the edge of the Galaxy in Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series.Warning:Wikipedia contants spoilers!
Geography
It is the sole planet orbiting its star and has almost no metals. Being on the fringe of the galaxy, there are almost no stars in the sky. The capital of Terminus is Terminus City. Terminus City houses the Seldon time chamber, where messages recorded by Hari Seldon before his death are played at the beginning of Seldon Crises.Prior to human occupation, there was some life on Terminus. However, once humans arrived (along with their supporting species), these native life forms were crowded out and become extinct.
History
With the Galactic Empire in fatal decline, Hari Seldon, inventor of the science of psychohistory, creates a plan to shorten time to the rise of a New Empire from 30,000 years to 1,000 years. He asks the chief librarian of the Library of Trantor to undertake a search to find a suitable planet, according to Seldon's criteria. The librarian, following a lengthy search, finds Terminus, which at that point was uninhabited.
Seldon convinces the Empire (in particular, the totalitarian Commission of Public Safety) to set up a colony on Terminus with 100,000 scientists, whose ostensible purpose it will be to publish an Encyclopedia Galactica. In actuality, their job will be to preserve science and technology to speed the time until the rise of the next empire.
