A horizontal platform near the water surface level where the cattle or traffic get into the canal. In case of very small canals, landing place and taking-off place on either bank is the same. For depth of one metre or more, one bank has landing place as well as taking-off place, whereas the other bank has only one place for landing and taking-off. Source: European Union. (references)
