Sumpter is a city located in Baker County, Oregon. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 171.

Geography


Sumpter is located at 44°44'46" North, 118°11'57" West (44.746229, -118.199149)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²). 5.6 km² (2.2 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 171 people, 95 households, and 51 families residing in the city. The population density is 30.3/km² (78.4/mi²). There are 215 housing units at an average density of 38.1/km² (98.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.49% White, 0.00% African American, 1.17% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 2.34% from two or more races. 0.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 95 households out of which 6.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.5% are married couples living together, 2.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 46.3% are non-families. 37.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 1.80 and the average family size is 2.31. In the city the population is spread out with 7.6% under the age of 18, 3.5% from 18 to 24, 17.0% from 25 to 44, 48.0% from 45 to 64, and 24.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 55 years. For every 100 females there are 125.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 122.5 males. The median income for a household in the city is $27,188, and the median income for a family is $31,000. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $35,625 for females. The per capita income for the city is $16,518. 10.2% of the population and 6.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 36.4% are under the age of 18 and 7.0% are 65 or older.

Sumpter is a town located in Sauk County, Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,021.

Geography


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 97.9 km² (37.8 mi²). 97.6 km² (37.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.29% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 1,021 people, 402 households, and 260 families residing in the town. The population density is 10.5/km² (27.1/mi²). There are 458 housing units at an average density of 4.7/km² (12.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 91.48% White, 0.29% African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 7.15% from other races, and 0.69% from two or more races. 14.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 402 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% are married couples living together, 10.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.3% are non-families. 26.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.05. In the town the population is spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.4 males. The median income for a household in the town is $31,806, and the median income for a family is $37,500. Males have a median income of $27,768 versus $24,479 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,205. 12.0% of the population and 9.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 13.5% are under the age of 18 and 16.9% are 65 or older.
