(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Spicules are skeletal structures of sponges that aid in supporting them. These are mostly calcareous, made of calcium carbonate. Spicules are varied in structure.

When seen many are seen together, Poriferan spicules tend to lood like a mesh-blanket of three-pointed stick-stars.
