Specialty Definition: Speedy

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Speedy was the original DC Comics superhero identity for Roy Harper who was originally the sidekick to the Green Arrow.

Originally, Speedy was created to be essentially an archer copy of Robin much like how Green Arrow was to Batman. The character took its own nature when he joined the Teen Titans and became a fast talking ladies man to contrast against the more serious Robin.

The most famous use of the character was in a Green Lantern issue when the Green Arrow learned that Roy had become alienated from him and became a heroin addict. With difficulty, Roy managed to break his addiction and endure withdrawal.

Eventually, the character was allowed to mature and changed his identity to Arsenal and along the way, became a single father with a child born out of wedlock from a liason with a beautiful assassin named Cheshire.
