Specialty Definition: Software hoarding

Software hoarding was the original practice that led to the creation of copyleft. It is the creation of proprietary software products based on free software code, thus creating code forking, interoperability problems leading to proprietary lock-in, and limitation of knowledge. While legal (unless restricted by copyleft or a similar license), it is considered immoral by proponents of free software.
