A. A borehole driven horizontally or nearly so and approx. on a level with the quarry floor. b. A borehole driven under a boulder for containing a charge of explosives. In quarry work, it is called a lifter. c. Nearly horizontal holes drilled at the bottom of the face of a bench. The holes are not quite horizontal but are inclined slightly downward so the bottoms will be a few feet below grade d. A hole driven into a toe for blasting, with or without vertical hole.
