Differentiation of sinus arrest, which is thought to be due to a slowing or cessation of spontaneous sinus nodal automaticity and therefore a disorder of impulse formation, from sinoatrial exit block in patients with sinus arrhythmia can be quite difficult without direct recordings of sinus node discharge [VE1].
