In computing, SIMPLE (Session Initiation Protocol for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions) is an instant messaging (IM) protocol. In contrast to the vast majority of IM software deployed today, SIMPLE is an open standard.SIMPLE applies the Session Initiation Protocol to the problems of:
SIMPLE is currently (2003) IETF work in progress, taking place in the simple workgroup. Some parts have been standardized, e.g. RFC 3428. Other parts, in particular IM sessions, are still under discussion. However, several implementations are already available, notably including the Microsoft Windows Messenger.
- Registering for presence events and receiving notifications when such events occur, for example when a user logs-in or comes back from lunch.
- Managing a session of real-time messages between two or more participants.
SIMPLE is not the only IM protocol being developed within the IETF. XMPP, based on the Jabber technology, is a contender.

In mathematics, a simple group is a group G that has more than one element and does not have any normal subgroups besides {e} (e being the identity element of G) and G itself.Despite the name, simple groups are far from "simple". The finite simple groups are important because in a certain sense they are the "basic building blocks" of all finite groups, somewhat similar to the way prime numbers are the basic building blocks of the integers. This is expressed by the Jordan-Hölder theorem.
The only simple groups which are abelian are the cyclic groups whose order is a prime number. In a huge collaborative effort, the classification of finite simple groups was accomplished in 1982.

In abstract algebra, a (left or right) module S over a ring R is called simple if it is not the zero module and if its only submodules are 0 and S. Understanding the simple modules over a ring is usually helpful because they form the "building blocks" of all other modules in a certain sense. If S is a simple module and f : S → T is a module homomorphism, then f is either zero or injective. (Reason: the kernel of f is a submodule of S and hence is either 0 or S.) If T is also simple, then f is either zero or an isomorphism. (Reason: the image of f is a submodule of T and hence either 0 or T.) Taken together, this implies that the endomorphism ring of a simple module is a division ring.

Simplicity is the property, condition, or quality of being simple or uncombined. It often connotes beauty. Simple things are usually easier to explain and be understood and durable to be interpreted ambiguously than complex ones.According to Occam's razor, all other things being equal, the simplest theory is the most likely to be true -- hence the importance of the concept of simplicity in epistemology. According to Thomas Aquinas, God is infinitely simple.
In MCS cognition theory, simplicity is the property of a domain which requires very little information to be exhaustively described. This is the contrary of complexity.
