Statistics | In the theory of testing hypotheses a region in the sample space is said to be similar to another if a correspondence can be set up between them such that the probability of a sample point falling in a part of one is proportional to the probability that a sample point falls into the corresponding part of the other. For example, the distribution of n independent normal variates with zero mean and unit variance is spherically symmetric in the sample space. It is possible to set up a correspondence between the whole space and the surface of hypersphere of unit radius centred at the origin. Source: European Union. (references) |
