A species of tick common in the western USA, parasitic on numerous wild mammals, most domestic animals, and man. It is a vector of Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularaemia, Colorado tick fever, and Q fever in the USA, and is one of the causes of tick paralysis in that country. Source: European Union.
