The number of heat units measured as being liberated when unit mass of fuel is burned in oxygen saturated with water vapour in a bomb under standardised conditions, the residual materials being taken as gaseous oxygen, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen, water as water vapour and ash. The standardised conditions are defined in ISO-R-1928-71. The international reference temperature is 25°C(1). Source: European Union. (references)
The amount of heat liberated by the complete combustion, under specified conditions, of unit volume of a gas, the water produced by the combustion of the gas being assumed to remain as a vapour, the other products of combustion being referred to the standardised test conditions as applied in different countries. Hencethe net calorific value is the gross calorific value less the latent heat of evaporation of the water that formed during combustion of the fuel(2). Source: European Union. (references)
