Miniatures are small figurines cast in either plastic or metal, commonly used in role playing games and tabletop wargames. Early versions were made of lead-based pewter, but ones currently manufactured are usually lead-free.Often these miniatures are painted as a hobby. Fantasy and role playing conventions will sometimes feature competitions on miniature painting.

Pictured is an experimental miniature pig. The experimental animal is being held in place by rubber-tube covered arms in a laboratory setting. Some cans are visible on shelves behind the animal. The miniature pig has an unusually thick placenta that prevents sow's immune system from influencing that of offspring. Raised in a sterile environment, such piglets are vital in providing clues as to how the immune system develops. Credit: Linda Bartlett (photographer). | ![]() | Supersonic Transport Model Miniature.
