A marlin is a large game fish, also called a spearfish - family: Istiophoridae; order: Perciformes. It belongs to the genus Tetrapturus (or Makaira).

It has an elongated body, up to 2.5 m long, a spearlike snout, and a long rigid dorsal fin, which extends forwards to form a crest. Marlins are fast swimmers, occurring in all seas and hunting small fish.

The larger species include the blue marlin, Makaira nigricans, which grows to 4.6 m (14.6 feet) long and around 450 kg (992 pounds). They are popular sporting fishes in certain tropical areas and are also commercially important as a food fish.

Marlin is a town located in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 640.

Geography


Marlin is located at 40°40'50" North, 76°14'39" West (40.680503, -76.244204)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²). 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 640 people, 269 households, and 181 families residing in the town. The population density is 274.6/km² (710.5/mi²). There are 278 housing units at an average density of 119.3/km² (308.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 99.38% White, 0.62% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 269 households out of which 33.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% are non-families. 30.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.96. In the town the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 4.7% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 22.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.6 males. The median income for a household in the town is $42,692, and the median income for a family is $51,106. Males have a median income of $41,000 versus $22,083 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,122. 4.9% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 0.0% are under the age of 18 and 14.6% are 65 or older.

Marlin is a city located in Falls County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 6,628. It is the county seat of Falls County6.

Geography


Marlin is located at 31°18'29" North, 96°53'35" West (31.307975, -96.892975)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 11.8 km² (4.6 mi²). 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.09% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 6,628 people, 2,415 households, and 1,509 families residing in the city. The population density is 566.2/km² (1,465.4/mi²). There are 2,826 housing units at an average density of 241.4/km² (624.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 41.84% White, 44.48% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 11.62% from other races, and 1.58% from two or more races. 18.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,415 households out of which 30.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.7% are married couples living together, 22.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.5% are non-families. 34.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 3.21. In the city the population is spread out with 33.2% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 21.3% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $21,443, and the median income for a family is $26,861. Males have a median income of $25,220 versus $18,111 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,555. 31.3% of the population and 27.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 40.8% are under the age of 18 and 16.8% are 65 or older.
