Directs personnel in maintenance-of-way department and coordinates maintenance and repair activities with other functions of street-railway system: Issues instructions to personnel engaged in removal of snow or other obstruction from tracks, and construction, maintenance, and repair of roadway, bridges, and other structures. Dispatches crews of workers and equipment during emergencies, such as breakdowns, derailments, floods, and landslides, to make necessary repairs for restoration of service. Inspects equipment along way, periodically, to ascertain that it is maintained according to standards. Directs personnel engaged in maintaining time and work records. (references)
