Mining

Ordinary lay rope has the wires twisted in a direction opposite to the twist of the strands in the rope. The pitch of wire is from 2-1/2 to 3 times the diameter of the rope, and the pitch of the strands is from 6-1/2 to 9 times the diameter of the rope, the wires being exposed only in shortlengths at intervals.
