Literature

Kiss as a mode of salutation, comes from its use to express reverence or worship. Thus to adore idols and to kiss idols mean the same thing. Indeed, the word adore signifies simply to carry the hand to the mouth, that is, to kiss it to the idol. We still kiss the hand in salutation. Various parts of the body are kissed to distinguish the character of the adoration paid. Thus, to kiss the lips is to adore the living breath of the person saluted; to kiss the feet or ground is to humble oneself in adoration; to kiss the garments is to express veneration to whatever belongs to or touches the person who wears them. "Kiss the Son, lest He be angry" (Ps. ii. 12), means Worship the Son of God. Pharaoh tells Joseph, "Thou shalt be over my house, and upon thy mouth shall all my people kiss," meaning they shall reverence the commands of Joseph by kissing the roll on which his commands would be written. "Samuel poured oil on Saul, and kissed him," to acknowledge subjection to God's anointed (1 Sam. x. 1). In the Hebrew state, this mode of expressing reverence arose from the form of government established, whether under the patriarchal or matrimonial figure.
A Judas kiss. An act of treachery. The allusion is to the apostle Judas, who betrayed his Master with a kiss. Source: Brewer's Dictionary.

Kiss

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

A kiss is the touching of the lips to some other thing, usually another person. In modern Western culture it is most commonly an expression of romantic affection or sexual desire, and typically involves two people kissing one another on the lips, and may also involve one person kissing another on various parts of his or her body.

Kissing is also a means of expressing greetings between people of close acquaintance, often family members. This typically involves kissing on the cheek.

Kissing may also be used to signify reverence and subordination, as in kissing the ring of a king or pope.

When not an expression of romantic affection, a kiss is a largely symbolic gesture, in that the purpose of the kiss is to convey a meaning, such as salutations or subordination, rather than to experience the physical sensations associated with kissing. In romantic and sexual kissing, the physical sensations are often primary. Thus romantic kissing tends to be more intense and prolonged (see tongue kiss).

The term Kissing Hands is used to formally describe the appointment of the senior state figures to office by British monarchs. Though in the past, the monarch's hand was actually kissed, this is no longer so. When figures such as the British Prime Minister, cabinet members and diplomatics are formally appointed, they are said to have Kissed Hands.

KISS (band)

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

KISS is a New York City-based rock band that became famous in the mid to late 1970s. The band was known for its elaborate costumes and stage sets, and the fact that the band never appeared in public except in heavy make-up which disguised their real identities. The band stopped wearing their make-up in 1983, and put it back on by the mid 1990s when they began touring as a 1970's nostalgia act.

The original members of Kiss (formed 1972?-'73) (and their made-up personas) are Paul Stanley (star child), rhythm guitar; Gene Simmons (demon), bass; Ace Frehley (space-ace), lead guitar; and Peter Criss (catman), drums.

Over the years, the band had these replacements for Ace Frehley between 1982 and 1996 (when the original four members reunited):

And these were the replacements for Peter Criss between 1980 and 1996 and after 2001 when he left the band a second time: The band's name was rumored to stand for "Knights In Satan's Service" but this is an urban legend which Gene Simmons has denied in his book. Simmons states that Paul Stanley suggested the name on the spur of the moment while they were stopped at a traffic light.

KISS Principle

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

The KISS principle is a maxim often invoked when discussing design to fend off creeping featurism and control complexity of development. The usual explanation for this acronym is "Keep it Simple, Stupid", another is "Keep it Simple and Stupid" (often in artificial intelligence).

The acronym was originally used as a piece of advice from lawyers counseling their clients.

Possibly related to the marketroid maxim on sales presentations, "Keep It Short and Simple".

No images nor idols make For Robert Ingersoll to break. Take not God's name in vain; select A time when it will have effect. Work not on Sabbath days at all, But go to see the teams play ball. Kiss not thy neighbor's wife, unless Thine own thy neighbor doth caress Don't steal; thou'lt never thus compete Successfully in business. Cheat.
