Is due to a tear deficiency and usually results in persistent, mucopurulent conjunctivitis and corneal scarring and ulceration. The syndrome is common in dogs, in which it is often associated with autoimmune adenitis. Distemper infection, chronic sulfonamide therapy, and trauma are less frequent causes.
