Statistics | A method of visual presentation of statistical quantities by means of drawings or pictures of the subject matter under discussion. The method is restricted to the presentation of simple relationships and in order to overcome the unsatisfactory nature of crude comparisons by the eye of objects of different size it is now customary to represent a unit value of the data by a standard symbol and present the appropriate number of repetitions of this standard symbol to depict the magnitude under discussion. This virtually changes the style of the diagram to a pictorial bar-chart. Source: European Union. (references) |
