An institute is a permanent organizational body created for a certain purpose. Usually it is a research organization created to perform investigations in a certain area. The word comes from the Latin word institutum meaning facility or habit, from instituere meaning build, create, raise or educate.A non-permanent organizational body, especially in the context of business organizations, is usually called a consortium.
