DomainDefinitions

Health

A technique that combines protein electrophoresis and double immunodiffusion. In this procedure proteins are first separated by gel electrophoresis (usually agarose), then made visible by immunodiffusion of specific antibodies. A distinct elliptical precipitin arc results for each protein detectable by the antisera. (references)

Medicine

An analytical technique used for the identification of antigens separated from a mixture of proteins by electrophoresis. A specific antibody or antiserum is diffused into the support medium and forms a visible precipitate when it meets the antigen. Source: European Union. (references)
