Hometown is a city located in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,467.Geography
Hometown is located at 41°43'50" North, 87°43'55" West (41.730533, -87.731982)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 4,467 people, 1,895 households, and 1,171 families residing in the city. The population density is 3,593.2/km² (9,354.6/mi²). There are 1,938 housing units at an average density of 1,558.9/km² (4,058.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.29% White, 0.00% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.01% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 3.83% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,895 households out of which 27.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 43.2% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.2% are non-families. 35.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.36 and the average family size is 3.10. In the city the population is spread out with 23.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 29.7% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 19.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 82.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 77.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $39,512, and the median income for a family is $49,911. Males have a median income of $39,799 versus $28,750 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,149. 3.0% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. The racial makeup of the town is 98.43% White, 0.43% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.29% from two or more races. 0.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 575 households out of which 24.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.0% are married couples living together, 4.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.5% are non-families. 22.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.85. In the town the population is spread out with 19.4% under the age of 18, 4.4% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 31.0% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 92.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $40,568, and the median income for a family is $50,242. Males have a median income of $41,528 versus $30,536 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,831. 4.5% of the population and 1.6% of families are below the poverty line.
