Gage is a town located in Ellis County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 429.Geography
Gage is located at 36°19'5" North, 99°45'26" West (36.318024, -99.757206)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.1 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 429 people, 197 households, and 121 families residing in the town. The population density is 394.4/km² (1,032.8/mi²). There are 223 housing units at an average density of 205.0/km² (536.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.97% White, 0.00% African American, 1.40% Native American, 0.93% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 2.56% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 197 households out of which 24.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.7% are married couples living together, 11.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.1% are non-families. 36.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.18 and the average family size is 2.86. In the town the population is spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 7.0% from 18 to 24, 22.6% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 19.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.3 males. The median income for a household in the town is $25,795, and the median income for a family is $32,750. Males have a median income of $22,788 versus $13,929 for females. The per capita income for the town is $15,706. 20.6% of the population and 15.4% of families are below the poverty line. Sir Thomas Gage (1719-April 2, 1787) was a British general and commander in chief of the North American forces from 1763 to 1778 during the early days of the American Revolution.He was part of the Braddock Expedition in 1755. He married Margaret Kemble of New Jersey in 1758. General Gage was made governor of Massachusetts under martial law in 1774.
