Mining

A smelting process in which dried metal sulfide concentrates are blown with oxygen or oxygen-rich air in a hot hearth-type furnace such that the particles react rapidly with the oxygen to generate a large amount of heat, partially (controlled) oxidizing the concentrates and producing a molten matte phase containing the metal values, which will be furtherprocessed, and a molten slag.
