ELLIPTICAL POLARIZATION

Specialty Definition: ELLIPTICAL POLARIZATION

DomainDefinition

Aerospace

The polarization of a wave radiated by an electric vector rotating in a plane and simultaneously varying in amplitude so as to describe an ellipse. (references)

Mining

In optics, elliptically polarized light consisting of upward-spiraling vibration vectors, the surface of which is elliptical rather than circular, as in circular polarization. It is caused by the inconstant lengths of vibration vectors of mutually perpendicular plane-polarized waves whose path differences differ in phase by amounts other than(n+1)/4lambda on emergence from a crystal. Specialty Definition: Elliptical polarization

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

In electrodynamics elliptical polarization is the polarization of electromagnetic radiation such that the tip of the electric field vector describes an ellipse in any fixed plane intersecting, and normal to, the direction of propagation. An elliptically polarized wave may be resolved into two linearly polarized waves in phase quadrature with their polarization planes at right angles to each other.

All forms of polarization can be considered elliptical, including circular and linear polarization.
