Aerospace | 1. A region in which a charged particle would experience an electrical force; the geometric array of the imaginary electric lines of force that exist in relation to points of opposite charge. An electric field is a vector field in which magnitude of the vector is the electric-field strength and the vector is parallel to the lines of force.2. = electric-field strength. See atmospheric electric field. (references) |
Space | The region in which electric forces can be observed, e.g. near an electric charge. As a field, it may also be viewed as a region of space modified by the presence of electric charges. (references) |

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)
In physics, an electric field is the effect produced by the existence of an electric charge, such as an electron, ion, or proton, in the volume of space or medium that surrounds it.
The mathematical definition of the electric field is developed as follows. Coulomb's Law gives the force between two point charges as
Another empirically known fact was that in the presence of a more complicated fixed object, the electric forces from the constituent charges can simply be added together. Hence, the electric field due to a composite object becomes
See Maxwell's equations for the full set of equations governing electric fields.
