Specialty Definition: Edge detection

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)

Edges are considered to be the high frequency regions of an image. so edge detection is nothing but an high pass filtering, in the trivial case of 1-dimensional objects.

In 2-dimensions, and higher, the concept of a projection has to be considered.

See, for example, the work of Sobel.
