Dud checks is another area that the GOB is clamping down on. The BMA increased the penalty for the issuance of dud checks from USD 18.60 to USD 26.50. In its efforts to protect the local market from such practices, the BMA circulates to banks and commercial institutions the names of check abusers with clear instructions to close violators' accounts for a full year.
