Mining | A. Term used for an occurrence of kimberlite in volcanic pipes large enough and sufficiently diamondiferous to be minable. The size and shape of these pipes depend on the position of the planes of structural weakness in the country rock through which the molten kimberlite passed. They may be columnar, tabular, or irregular in shape, and where mining is deep enough the diamond pipe is found to decrease in area and assume a dikelike habit. (references) |
