Defiance is a city located in Shelby County, Iowa. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 346.

Geography


Defiance is located at 41°49'29" North, 95°20'31" West (41.824740, -95.342056)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 346 people, 125 households, and 98 families residing in the city. The population density is 334.0/km² (868.9/mi²). There are 131 housing units at an average density of 126.4/km² (329.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.95% White, 0.00% African American, 1.16% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.89% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 2.89% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 125 households out of which 40.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.6% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.8% are non-families. 19.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.77 and the average family size is 3.16. In the city the population is spread out with 30.9% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 13.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 106.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 106.0 males. The median income for a household in the city is $36,875, and the median income for a family is $40,125. Males have a median income of $25,673 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the city is $12,492. 7.0% of the population and 4.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.2% are under the age of 18 and 4.2% are 65 or older.

Defiance is a city located in Defiance County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 16,465. It is the county seat of Defiance County6.

Geography


Defiance is located at 41°16'55" North, 84°21'46" West (41.281891, -84.362856)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 28.6 km² (11.0 mi²). 27.3 km² (10.5 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.44% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 16,465 people, 6,572 households, and 4,422 families residing in the city. The population density is 603.1/km² (1,562.4/mi²). There are 7,061 housing units at an average density of 258.7/km² (670.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 87.15% White, 3.44% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 6.50% from other races, and 2.15% from two or more races. 12.75% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 6,572 households out of which 33.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% are married couples living together, 12.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% are non-families. 27.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.43 and the average family size is 2.95. In the city the population is spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 11.1% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 22.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $41,670, and the median income for a family is $49,599. Males have a median income of $37,322 versus $23,938 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,790. 8.8% of the population and 7.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 12.0% are under the age of 18 and 7.1% are 65 or older.
