Cut Off is a town located in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 5,635.

Geography


Cut Off is located at 29°30'55" North, 90°20'2" West (29.515201, -90.333839)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 38.5 km² (14.9 mi²). 38.2 km² (14.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.74% water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 5,635 people, 2,033 households, and 1,608 families residing in the town. The population density is 147.4/km² (381.7/mi²). There are 2,136 housing units at an average density of 55.9/km² (144.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 91.41% White, 1.12% African American, 3.78% Native American, 1.26% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 1.10% from other races, and 1.30% from two or more races. 2.13% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 2,033 households out of which 39.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.0% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.9% are non-families. 18.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.76 and the average family size is 3.12. In the town the population is spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.1 males. The median income for a household in the town is $38,077, and the median income for a family is $42,986. Males have a median income of $35,994 versus $19,225 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,353. 7.9% of the population and 7.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 9.6% are under the age of 18 and 10.8% are 65 or older.
