Cotter is a city located in Baxter County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 921.

Geography


Cotter is located at 36°16'29" North, 92°31'42" West (36.274772, -92.528336)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.4 km² (2.5 mi²). 6.4 km² (2.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census2 of 2000, there are 921 people, 443 households, and 265 families residing in the city. The population density is 144.0/km² (373.6/mi²). There are 501 housing units at an average density of 78.3/km² (203.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.07% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.87% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.85% from two or more races. 1.52% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 443 households out of which 20.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.5% are married couples living together, 8.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.0% are non-families. 35.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.08 and the average family size is 2.67. In the city the population is spread out with 19.7% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 20.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 97.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.5 males. The median income for a household in the city is $22,857, and the median income for a family is $34,375. Males have a median income of $26,298 versus $17,266 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,893. 16.8% of the population and 11.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.3% are under the age of 18 and 13.3% are 65 or older.

Cotter is located at 41°17'32" North, 91°28'2" West (41.292202, -91.467217)1. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²). 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics


As of the census of 2000, there are 48 people, 19 households, and 14 families residing in the city. The population density is 80.6/km² (205.3/mi²). There are 19 housing units at an average density of 31.9/km² (81.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 85.42% White, 4.17% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 10.42% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 14.58% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 19 households out of which 31.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.2% are married couples living together, 10.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.3% are non-families. 10.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 0.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 2.79. In the city the population is spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 31.3% from 45 to 64, and 6.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 166.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 125.0 males. The median income for a household in the city is $41,250, and the median income for a family is $26,250. Males have a median income of $34,375 versus $18,750 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,879. 18.9% of the population and 11.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 37.5% are under the age of 18 and 0.0% are 65 or older.
