Electrical Engineering | A heat exchanger which is the cold source in closed steam cycle and condenses the exhaust steam of the turbine. Source: European Union. (references) |
Energy | A large heat exchanger designed to cool exhaust steam from a turbine below the boiling point so that it can be returned to the heat source as water. In a pressurized water reactor, the water is returned to the steam generator. In a boiling water reactor, it returns to the reactor core. The heat removed from the steam by the condenser is transferred to a circulating water system and is exhausted to the environment, either through a cooling tower or directly into a body of water. Industry | The last section of a condenser card; it divides a broad thin web of fibres into narrow strips, which are then consolidated by rubbing into slivers of circular cross-section. In some cases, the condenser receives the material as narrow strips and then completes the process. Source: European Union. (references) |

(From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia)
The term condenser has the following meanings:
- In electronics, it is another (more old-fashioned) word for capacitor.
- In systems involving heat transfer, a condenser is a chamber which converts a substance from its gaseous to its liquid state. In so doing, energy is given up by the substance, and the condenser will get hot. For example a refrigerator uses a condenser to get rid of the heat extracted from the interior of the unit to the outside air. Condensers are widely used in many types of system.
- In optics, a condenser is a large plano-convex lens, commonly used in pairs in photographic enlargers
