Mining

The conversion of coal into liquid hydrocarbons and related compounds by hydrogenation at elevated temperatures and pressures. In essence, this involves putting pulverized bituminous coal into an oily paste, which is treated with hydrogen gas under appropriate conditions of temperature and pressure to form the liquid molecules of carbon and hydrogen that constitute oil.
