| A. A steel or timber element in the lining of a rectangular shaft. Buntons may be 6 in by 5 in or 6 in (15.2 cm by 12.7 cm or 15.2 cm) square and extend across the shaft at intervals of 4 ft to 8 ft (1.2 m to 2.4 m).
