Mining

A quarry in which the joints are numerous and irregular, so that the stone has been broken naturally into comparatively small blocks. A local term applied to certain marble quarries in the region of Knoxville, TN, where erosion has formed many large cavities and cracks, between which the rockstands up as pinnacles. The cavities are now filled with clay. (references)
